25 Things Churches Should Stop Posting Immediately

Slide title: '25 Things Churches Should Stop Posting Immediately' on a dark patterned background with the Be Known For Something logo.

Back in 2001, we launched Be Known for Something from the old Krispy Kreme test-kitchen and marketing offices in Winston-Salem, NC. Mark MacDonald had just moved to the United States after serving as Senior Creative Director for one of eastern Canada’s largest advertising and branding agencies.

We started with one goal: help churches communicate clearly so their communities listen.

25 years later, the tools have changed, but the need for clarity hasn’t.

That’s why our anniversary year (2026) is a perfect moment to look back, laugh a little, and learn from what we’ve seen.

These will feel painfully true. Shareable. And helpful.

  1. Sermon graphics with too much text
  2. Dark, grainy worship photos
  3. Staff selfies with no context
  4. Ministry flyers with 12 fonts
  5. Long event descriptions
  6. Last-minute announcements
  7. Posters turned into social posts
  8. The back of the worship leader’s head
  9. Birthday shoutouts to staff
  10. Out-of-focus kid photos
  11. Slides full of clipart
  12. Flyers without a call to action
  13. Video thumbnails with random screenshots
  14. Anything with Comic Sans
  15. Pulpit photos with no story
  16. Outdated event promos
  17. Unedited sermon ramblings
  18. Hyping an event that’s not that exciting
  19. Anything that’s about the church and not the congregation
  20. Vacation Bible School photos in December
  21. Event reminders three times a day
  22. Sermon graphics that all look different
  23. Asking “Guess what’s coming?”
  24. Social posts for only insiders
  25. Anything not connected to your Brand Thread

When churches simplify, strategy wins, and their voice becomes clear.
